With a base price of $5,563, they were still more affordable than the company's most expensive drop-top, the '63 Lincoln, which listed for $1,353 more. This makes '62 Sports Roadsters easier to fake all '63 Sports Roadsters came with the 89 designation. Early cars carried the same number as the regular production convertibles later cars carried 89 in the serial number. Sports Roadsters were cataloged by Ford as body styles 85 and 89 in 1962. Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, a passenger-side grab bar on the dash and Sports Roadster insignia below the Thunderbird script on the front fenders were among the production amendments. Sports Roadsters, offered in 1962 and '63, differed from the convertible, as they had a fiberglass tonneau cover with vinyl headrests over the back seat.
